A MESSAGE TO FBC MEMBERS
On December 7th, 2008, the FBC congregation selected nine church members from a slate of names presented to them by the Church Council and the Deacons to serve as FBC's long-range strategic planning team. They are: DONNA CHRISTOL, BARBARA FOSSETT, DEBBIE GOSSETT, BRIAN HANKINS, LINDA LOVE, YVONNE SCOTT, KEVIN SIMS, MARGARET SMITH, and MARC VEAZEY. DOUG COGSWELL and SHARON HENDRIX have been appointed to serve the Vision Team as alternates. These church members will work with the four members of FBC's ministerial staff to prayerfully assess what God would have for our church in the future. Through the course of careful prayer and diligent thought, it is the belief of the Church Council, the Deacons, and the Congregation of our church that FBC's future rests in good hands.
UPDATES: The Vision Team met with the Georgia Baptist Convention's Benny Pate, a church growth specialist on May 10th & 11th for a two night seminar. These meetings facilitated our discussion in assessing and evaluating FBC's Core Values and working toward concreating our church's Purpose statement. These discussions will lead to a finalization of our Values and Purpose later on in the process. Our next steps were to appoint a Team Leader to facilitate our meetings, review our "First Cut" in the Core Values and Purpose process, and assign teams to investigate perceptions and facts as they relate to FBC and our community. Also, due to an increased case load with the FBI, Marc Veazey withdrew from the Team.
After several meetings through the summer the Team produced and delivered a church assessment survey to our congregation. Initially, we had planned to follow up that survey with a second questionaire, but after prayer and discussion upon the compiling of survey results, the Team elected to do further research before approaching the congregation a second time.
We are currently making further assesments about the ongoing ministries at FBC, and are looking forward to updating the church to that affect in the near future.
